The way that the image shows is somewhat of a flight of fancy. Something that might be truely doable is a 100% kenetic approach with a magnetic rail gun system on the ground, shooting cargo up to a positioning satillite, and then shooting them down to their intended target. According to Wiki Answers, it only takes about 90 minutes for the current space shuttle to orbit the earth, so anywhere on the Earth in about 2 hours is potentially possible, right?
