Ars has a piece up about the deal that Hawaii just signed with an electric car company.  As you can see from the image, the 100 mile radius isn’t going to much of an issue, but I was surprised to read that the state was looking to get 70% of their energy from renewable sources by 2030.

So this whole time, they’ve been trucking in fuel?

  1. Where I live the 100 mile charge would be no good. Hubby travels 112 miles per day, and that’s if he does nothing but go to work and come straight home. I drive 44 miles per day but can easily exceed 100 miles if I have errands to run and (at least once weekly, a doctor appt). I do like the idea of charging parking lots though. It works sort of like a municipal parking lot but would also include charging stations, so you can charge your car while you’re parked.
