I remember doing this in elementary school. I wonder when they stopped doing this.

I never did this, started kindergarden in 1985, so sometime before then.
@tiki god: I was at the tail-end of this. I started kindergarten in 1968 and I remember doing it in that school. We moved when I was 9 and the new school I went to never did it.
