Bug-out bag

A bug-out bag[1][2] is a portable kit popular in the survivalist subculture[3] that contains the items one would require to survive for seventy two hours[4][5] when evacuating from a disaster. It is also known as a 72-hour kit[6]. The focus is on evacuation, rather than long-term survival, distinguishing the bug-out bag from a survival kit, a boating or aviation emergency kit, or a fixed-site disaster supplies kit.

  1. Yeah, I should have one too. I don’t. I’ve got the laptop, but that really isn’t even a good backup, I have done anything with it and won’t until Windows 7 hits RTM. I really, really need to work up a good backup plan for everybody’s computers, in something that’s ready to grab and go.

I probably also need other financial papers, physically and digitally. We (meaning both my wife and I) to go around with the video camera and take inventory of the house, and shot that somewhere on the Intertubes.

At least in Florida you get time to prepare for a hurricane. In the Midwest where I’m originally from, you’re lucky to get 10 minutes warning of a tornado, not that those haven’t been spotted around here.
