MickeyD’s at Louvre

French culture and American convenience will come together in December — thanks to plans by the McDonald’s restaurant chain to hang its shingle in the shadow of the Louvre.

McDonald’s is delighted at the prospect of feeding hungry culture vultures. But not everyone is happy about mixing high art and fast food.

The McDonald’s will be installed in the food court of the underground mall adjoining the museum, known as the Carrousel du Louvre, as the fast-food chain fetes its 30th anniversary in France, McDonald’s France said.

The pairing could serve the interests of both. The Louvre is the world’s most visited museum; France is McDonald’s top market outside the United States.

This is so disappointing. I love the French and their cuisine. I saw a McD’s on the Champs Élysées and thought that was bad, but the Louvre…the LOUVRE! I didn’t know that they love McD’s so much; it may be an explanation for why the French are becoming as obese as the US.

  1. Greasy fast food fingers going through the Louvre. Nothing is sacred. So much irony in this article. Many Americans aren’t fond of the French and many more French aren’t fond of America, yet this is happening. Personally I see so many things in common between our two countries both positive and negative. Plus history and culture are so celebrated in France. Too bad the people are assholes to tourists.

    1. The only French that are assholes to tourists are Parisians, and more so to the German tourists that flood Paris every August (when the rest of France has the month off). I lived outside Toulouse and whatever the average Frenchman thinks of America, they love Americans (mostly).
