This year a number of famous brands have closed or their parents have announced that they will be shut down shortly. This includes decades-old magazines like Gourmet and famous car brands like Pontiac. The recession took whatever economic value these brands had left and destroyed it.

The brands on the 24/7 list for 2010 include companies that have been in trouble for years. Some have been in slow decline and others were irreparably damaged by the credit crisis. Most of these companies will be bought and the rest will simply be closed.

A couple names on this list that were not a huge surprise, but a few that were.  What do you think?  Would you add any names to this list?

  1. I shop at the one in Hagerstown. It’s the only large bookstore w/in a 50 mile radius. I get most of my books from amazon.com, but I like goin to the bookstore and just checking out all the titles in a given genre and pick a few I think I’ll like.

    1. what is it about borders that you like?

I’ve never had a ‘great, i’m happy you’re in business’ moment in borders. normally just sadness that they’re trying to sell dvds for more than MSRP and that they didn’t have the book series that I was looking for.

      🙁

      1. The Borders I always visit have books I am looking for and booking I didn’t know I am looking for. They also tend to have a giant movie selection despite their prices and a great selection of Criterion movies. I also like their magazines. Tons of mags that they don’t sell anywhere else including my favorite: Empire.

  2. Borders is good for most stuff right when it comes out, and they e-mail me deals all the time as good as 30% off, sometimes more. But nothing beats half-priced books or the internet if your trying to find something special.
