A pay telephone line has been made available for French Roman Catholics and only costs 0.34 euros a minute, plus a connection charge for mobiles.
Bishops have criticised the stunt though and Catholic leaders said in a statement that it had “no approval from the Catholic Church in France”, AFP reported.
“For advice on confessing, press one. To confess, press two. To listen to some confessions, press three”, the male voice says on the ‘Le Fil Du Seigneur’ (The Line of the Lord).
It was set up at the beginning of the Christian fasting period of Lent by a group of Catholics working for AABAS and received around 300 calls in its first week.
The creator said it doesn’t offer absolution for sins, but Catholics can confess since which are minor.
For actual absolution for sins, only a priest can help but the money from the calls got to charity, she said.
