Ray is the same type of believer as Jim Bakker, Ted Haggard, Jimmy Swaggart, John Ensign etc. that believe that truth applies to you and not to them. They are dedicated to a “higher cause” that allows them freedom to commit the acts for which they reprimand you (see Ted Haggard). It is the ultimate hypocrisy.
Comfort knows the truth, however, his belief in God has formed a dichotomy that forks his tongue.
I think you put it best. I was wrecking my brain trying to come up with a theory to explain this, but hypocrisy not only works, but fits best with what I know about him.
