Some enterprising gentlemen’s-club proprietors in Shanghai have opened a new venue, the theme of which is America’s 44th president, Barack Obama. The people at SmartShanghai.com hilariously phoned the office of the U.S. Consulate there to ask how involved Obama was in the opening of his eponymous Obama Club Shanghai. “Uh yeah, I would seriously doubt it. I don’t have a comment. I’m not familiar with the club,” answered an official spokesperson. Still! Ten Pulitzers in the category of farce for SmartShanghai. Shanghaiist has scanned an advertisement for the nightclub that boasts/hedges, “The Obama Club is probably the largest entertainment clubhouse in Shanghai.” “Probably”! Ten Pulitzers in the category of ad copy for the Obama Club.

Gawker’s Alex Pareene managed to snap a screen shot of the club’s Web site, which is sadly now “in progress.” The photo seems to suggest that Obama Club Shanghai features a party—service? show?—called “The Boardroom,” which, judging from an artist’s rendering, includes silhouetted ladies doing impressions of hieroglyphics. Opens April 26!
