Genesis 4:15-18. I always assumed he got himself a wife in Nod. Also, Genesis 5:4 Adam had lots of sons and daughters. And finally Genesis 6:1-4, the sons of god had children with the daughters of humans. Lots of possible answers he could have proposed instead of evasions.
